Keep Your Customers Excited About Your Brand

Building (or refreshing) a visual identity and a website for your brand is overwhelming. Where do you start, and what do you do next? How do you build an experience out of it?

But it’s not meant to be confusing.

My job is to bring in the plan on how to make sure your customers visually recognize your brand at every touchpoint—from its first Instagram post they see all the way through the checkout “Thank you for your order!” screen.

Let’s set your brand up for success.

Methods I Apply in My Work

A combination of number of approaches and techniques varies from project to project, depending on client’s needs.

Here is the list of what I usually prefer doing when I plan User Experience for my clients:

Heuristic UX Analysis

This method is based on the best practices of user experience. While doing this analysis, I work with the current state of the product, checking various aspects of the interface and identifying elements that may confuse users due to unexpected behavior or design.

Sometimes just a few improvements may significantly improve conversions.

Competitive-Comparative Analysis

The very first step in terms of understanding where a client’s website stands among peers. I’ve found a way to get a bird’s‑eye view of competitors via comparative tables.

This way, I can see the direction each competitor has chosen (or confirm the lack of a clear one), their social media activity and other important factors depending on the company’s business direction.

Evaluation of Current Website Metrics

Looking at client’s Google Analytics or Yandex Metrica, Hotjar visitor recordings allow better understanding of user frustrations and needs.

This way I can see what content they seek, how they interact with a product, and suggest better solutions for some of the decisions currently made in the interface.

Customer Journey Mapping

Also known as CJM, this method helps understand how a user interacts with the client’s website better at different stages of their journey towards conversion. I look at the conversion funnel, starting from customer learning about client’s brand to its final step (making a purchase or booking a service).

This process is usually presented as a table that shows user actions at every step of the funnel, as well as the way business actions done to meet user’s needs.

User Interviews

User interviews take place at different stages of UX analysis.

Sometimes I perform them as user interviews before building CJM to see what potential struggles they experience.

In other cases it may include usability testing of different parts of the product or its features.

Use Case Diagrams

Use Case Diagrams are a visualisation of product features for different customer roles in a product.

If client’s product implies at least two personas with different set of features, this diagram helps understand where do they meet.

Information Architecture Building

Usually this part starts with analyzing the existing site: what does its structure look like, determining the importance and performance of elements. I combine it with heuristic analysis (known best practices) using my years of experience in the business.

Other data sources for this phase may include feedback from the client’s customer support team, data from their CRM, results of NPS surveys, usability tests (in person or remotely), and first impression surveys.

Usability Testing

Usability testing is a crucial part of work that saves project budget and helps avoid extra spending on unnecessary features.

Performed on wireframe stage, it allows for better MVP planning on early stages—when engineers haven’t started building the product yet.

Testing done on a launched product helps with optimizing user experience and finding solutions that convert the best.

Wireframes Building

This process determines the look and feel of the future website. It usually includes the homepage, copywriting directions, internal pages, and any necessary graphics (icons, infographics, stock photos and their visual orientation, as well as the direction of your own photos).

More Building Blocks for All-Round UX

In addition to UX planning I help my clients fill in communication gaps with their customers across the channels in order to shape balanced experience with the brand. They may include:

Social Media Planning

Potential customer learns about a product not just through a website. Social media is an essential touchpoint for them. Quite often this is where they form an initial opinion about a product.

I help define content strategy in order to “warm up” customer’s interest towards potential conversion.

Email and Messengers Strategy

Subscriptions in the channels like email, WhatsApp, and Telegram are important for communication between customers and the brand.

Very often this is a missing building block that improves retention rate.

I help define which types of emails and messages are required in order to keep customers informed about new services and products, so they could receive information fast and hassle-free.

Onboarding Series for New Customers

Whether it’s a ecommerce website or a startup, it’s important to deliver initial promo or a walkthrough for a product or a brand. It highlights unique selling proposition or features of a product.

Once customer joined a product or subscribed to email, I help define what exactly they should start receiving to stay confident about the brand and keep using products.

Growth-Driven Design

All this is great, but what’s next once the site is up and running? After all, the market is changing: the audience is becoming more sophisticated in their demands, and competitors are not slumbering either. So, the website has to evolve too.

This part is incredibly important to the future success of the website. Constant testing and monitoring of site analytics will help plan improvements for both existing pages and identify opportunities to create new ones.
